Representing Louisiana at the National ACT Conference in Nashville
Celebrating College and Career Readiness on a National Stage
This week I had the incredible privilege of representing the EBR Workforce Development Department at the ACT Conference in Nashville, Tennessee. Standing alongside educators and leaders from across the country, I was reminded of something that has guided my career for more than two decades: when we invest in students and create meaningful opportunities, amazing things happen.
Our team had the opportunity to share the incredible work taking place throughout East Baton Rouge Parish as we continue expanding career pathways, industry-based credentials, work-based learning opportunities, and college readiness initiatives. It was an honor to showcase how our district is helping students graduate with not only a diploma, but also the skills, experiences, and credentials they need to succeed after high school.
One of the most rewarding moments of the conference was hearing Louisiana recognized for its commitment to preparing students for both college and careers. That recognition reflects the dedication of countless teachers, administrators, counselors, business partners, and district leaders who work every day to create opportunities that change students' lives.
Throughout the conference, I attended sessions focused on workforce development, educational innovation, assessment, student engagement, and preparing learners for an ever-changing economy. It was inspiring to hear how districts across the nation are approaching similar challenges while discovering new ideas that can strengthen the work we are already doing in East Baton Rouge.
What makes Workforce Development so exciting is that it connects education with purpose. Every internship, industry credential, career pathway, certification, apprenticeship, and business partnership represents another student discovering their future. Those opportunities don't happen by accident—they happen because educators believe in students and communities invest in them.
As Executive Director of Workforce Development, I am incredibly proud of what our schools have accomplished together. Our students continue to earn more industry-based credentials, participate in more work-based learning experiences, and leave high school better prepared than ever before. These achievements belong to our entire district, and it was an honor to share that story with a national audience.
Conferences like ACT remind us that learning never stops—not just for students, but for educators as well. Every conversation, presentation, and networking opportunity provides new ideas that can help improve opportunities for the students we serve.
I return home energized, inspired, and more committed than ever to continuing our mission of ensuring every student is truly College and Career Ready.
Thank you to everyone who has supported our Workforce Development initiatives and to the incredible educators, administrators, business partners, and students who make this work possible. The future is bright for East Baton Rouge, and we're just getting started.
